We got this assignment from a young family who was growing and was expanding and they wanted to give their oldest daughter a space of her own; somewhere that she could call her own. Playful, fun and safe for her.
The family lives in a monumental house in the center of Amsterdam, with a lot of characteristic elements and charm. The room is located on the top floor of the back house. It is sort of a tower within the house, but connected to the bedroom downstairs.
To be able to create a separate bedroom, there needed to be created a separate entrance. This is done through a narrow and curvy stairs behind a small door, like a secret entrance to the princess's tower. When you cross this threshold you enter a world of its own; the furniture comes out of the floor and walls and is painted in a warm green, creating an inner topography and magic world.
